Crosstraining?

Over a couple of months ago I had the unpleasant experience of being thrown out of the gym I'd been a member of for the last six years.  Why? because over the last 18 months I'd been using their treadmills without wearing any shoes or socks.  Now they have decided that there are health and safety concerns like if I dropped a dumbell on my foot.  - Like a mesh running shoe would make any difference, I must wear appropriate footwear.  My main reason for using the gym is barefoot training and using their wobble boards.  I sometimes did the odd weight session but without the treadmill use it's not worth it.
Not wishing to name and shame the offending establishment (Beaconside sports centre) they can stick their £270 and I'll spend it on something more useful.

I've not had a road bike since I was about 12 when I used to ride an old halfords carrera jobie to school but always fancied one for the odd long ride out and some turbo trainer sessions when the nights start to get miserable.  The introduction of cyclescheme at work seemed the ideal opportunity to get a half decent machine for not so much money so I went to see Matt at Cycleshack and got this.  Full 105 groupset and 12k carbon frame.  Crap bars, seat, seatpost, stem.  Wheels aren't bad.
Fastest I've ever gone on a bicycle.  But that's not saying much.

I've only been out on it twice so far.  The first time on Thursday to get it set up straight and a ride of about 30 miles on Saturday.  I only had two near misses with blinkered drivers and got beeped at three times to get a move on.  I suppose I'll get used to it.
