Now we've got an extra hour of daylight the Tuesday night indoor circuit training has finished and structured orienteering training events in the great outdoors have replaced it. Starting at Walton High School I was told that this weeks event would be run on the same map as the previous street event. The Icy night time one, Link here. Expecting strategic control placement to deter theft, we had a control removed by scallies at the last street event, I was surprised to be handed a pencil and given instructions. I was to mark on the map next to the control the last digit of the post box code found at the very bottom of the label. All controls inside the school grounds were SI boxes. Everything outside were post boxes.
Having suffered from a stomach bug over the last few days I was feeling very delicate as the course started out with some micro 'O'. I went straight past control 1 to control 2 and had to go slowly back to find the first one tied to some steps on a hedge with no flag. After 2 and 3 they were more spaced out and I upped the pace a bit to the immediate protest from the stomach which made me slow down back to a more sedate pace which I kept all the way around.
No results or routegadget for this one but a very enjoyable nights training which had me working harder than I would if I'd just gone out for a casual run. This was quite evident as I legged it past a handful of 'joggers' with an A3 sheet in one hand and a pencil and compass in the other as if they were standing still. Must have wondered what the hell I was up to.
